Charity benefit raises $5,719 for hospital outreach

Apr. 13, 2006

MADISON – The 42nd annual Mountain Oyster & Ham Feed, sponsored by the employees of East River Electric Power Cooperative, raised more than $5,000 for a worthy cause. The charity dinner and silent auction on March 16 at the Madison Elks Club benefited the Children’s Care Hospital & Outreach Program.

The East River Employees Committee recently completed the tally for the fundraiser. "A total of 355 meals were served this year, " said event chairman Doug Engbrecht. “The silent auction of items by generous merchants and businesses and other cash donations produced additional revenues. After expenses, the net proceeds are $5,719 -- the second-highest total in our 42 year history.”

The proceeds from the fundraiser benefit a great cause. The Children's Care Hospital & Outreach Program provides health care and educational services to children with special needs from birth to age 21. Special guests at the oyster feed were first-grader Jon Wyatt, who receives services from the agency, and his family. Last year, Children's Care centers in Sioux Falls and Rapid City served more than 2,200 children through outreach, outpatient and inpatient services, representing nearly every county in South Dakota.

"Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a tremendous success, including the merchants who donated cash and prizes and the people who attended," Engbrecht said. "I would also like to salute the Elks Club and East River's employees who work together to host this annual event that helps such a worthy cause."
