With 311 people served and $5421 raised, East River Electric Power Cooperative’s 44th annual Mountain Oyster and Ham Feed once again brought awareness and funding for the Children’s Care Hospital and School. The event took place Thursday, March 13 at the Elks Club in Madison.
“With East River’s long history of giving, I think it’s terrific to have the support of the organization and the value that it brings to Children’s Care and its families,” said Pat Schaefer, vice president of community relations for Children’s Care Hospital and School.
Proceeds from benefits such as the Oyster Feed will be invested within the Children’s Care foundation, which is used to support areas of need such as recreation, camp fees, technology and in-service training. The foundation also offsets expenses that the fee-for-service does not pay. “Sometimes with all of the expenses families have, they can’t afford the extra things such as a dress for a special occasion. This will help with those situations as well,” Schaefer said.
Ramie Dahl, whose son Lance receives assistance from Children’s Care, attended the event with her husband Kester and children Lance, Jaycy, Kiara and Kyler. “Children’s Care is really great about helping find funding for services and needs you have with a special needs child,” Dahl said.
“I think it’s great that East River is willing to support Children’s Care Hospital and School. Sometimes people don’t realize what the needs of children are and how much our community does,” Dahl said.
