East River Electric Employees Sponsor Bicycle Safety Day

May 27, 2008

Fifty-seven children age 4 to 12 attended “Bicycle Safety Day” at the St. Thomas School gymnasium in Madison on Saturday, May 17, 2008.

Sponsored by East River Electric employees, this event featured a bicycle safety video, safety course, riding tips and drawings for bicycles and other prizes.

Police Chief Chuck Pulford and Officer Rob Haug of the Madison Police Department registered bicycles throughout the morning. Registration would provide recovery assistance to the police department in case of loss or theft.

East River employees inspected bicycles to help children and their parents determine what improvements should be made in order for the bikes to perform well and safely.

This year’s coordinator, Bristan Menor, stated that children learned many important lessons from the event.  “Kids came away from Bicycle Safety Day with the knowledge of bike safety rules and what gear they can wear to protect themselves from the dangers of riding a bike around on public roads,” Menor said.

Ebeni Nelson, Tristen Libby, Kendra Uthe and Mason Shoenrock were awarded new bicycles and many other children received new helmets from the drawing that was held.
