Delilah Maxwell and Alex Studer of Madison are recipients of a $1,250 scholarship from Basin Electric Power Cooperative based in Bismarck, N.D.
Basin Electric awards more than 170 scholarships each year to children of member cooperative employees and children of member cooperative consumers across the region. Studer is the son of Chris and Carrie Studer. Chris serves as Chief Member and Public Relations Officer at East River Electric Power Cooperative in Madison, a Basin Electric Member. Maxwell is the daughter of Jennifer Gross and Jason Maxwell. Jennifer serves as Education and Outreach Coordinator at East River Electric.
Studer plans to attend the University of Minnesota Duluth to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. While he is still exploring his long-term career path, he is considering becoming a licensed therapist, counselor or psychologist. He said receiving the scholarship is both an honor and a meaningful investment in his future.
“It takes some of the financial burden off,” said Studer. “It is an honor to receive the scholarship.”
Maxwell plans to attend Augustana University to pursue an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She said the scholarship will help make her educational goals more attainable while helping her to achieve her dreams.
“This is a huge honor because this is a very important scholarship for our rural community,” said Maxwell. “It means a lot to me that I was selected.”
“Alex and Delilah have demonstrated a strong commitment to their education and future careers,” said East River Electric CEO and General Manager Bob Sahr. “We are proud to recognize their accomplishments and wish them continued success as they pursue their dreams.”
Since the scholarship program began, over 5,000 students in the Basin Electric system have benefited from this program. Recipients are selected based on academic record, potential to succeed, leadership, and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, a statement of education, and career goals and an outside appraisal by a teacher or adviser.
