Team of Angels, a nonprofit based in Flandreau, South Dakota, recently received a $1,400 donation from East River Electric Power Cooperative’s employees following the cooperative's annual chili cookoff fundraiser. Chelsie Bakken, East River Employees Committee chair, said the fundraiser is a way employees work together to support organizations making a meaningful difference in the region.
“The Employees Committee works hard to make a difference in our communities across our member system,” Bakken said. “Our recent chili cookoff brought employees together for a fun event with a purpose, and we are proud to donate the funds raised to Team of Angels and support the important work they do for individuals in the area.”
Team of Angels is a grassroots nonprofit that provides support to individuals in the region by helping cover $1,000 per person in travel expenses to and from medical treatments. The organization raises around $110,000 to $120,000 annually through community-driven fundraising events and volunteer efforts, including outdoor events, a golf tournament, Chase-the-Ace, and support from the United Way.
The donation from East River will go toward helping individuals experiencing illness. Team of Angels relies on such donations to help fund the important work they are doing to lift barriers for people in need, helping them access life-saving treatment.
Holist Sutton of Team of Angels expressed appreciation for the donation, noting that for local organizations like theirs, every bit helps. In addition to financial contributions, Team of Angels encourages community members to donate their time by volunteering at events, participating in fundraisers, or serving in leadership roles, something that many local volunteer organizations need.
